Reasons to Buy a Red Dot Laser Sight

In the past, red dot laser sights were expensive, fragile and rather cumbersome devices, mainly used in the military field. Today things have definitely changed and the modern red dot laser sights have become light, robust and, in some cases, also quite cheap. Not only that: giant steps have also been made regarding critical aspects such as battery life or lens clarity.

For these reasons, more and more agonist shooters and do not decide to buy a red dot to be mounted on their weapons, both long and short.

Before analyzing in detail what are the motivations that lead to “betraying” the classic metallic sights, we try to briefly describe what a red dot is and how it works. A red dot laser sight is an instrument used to aim that is mounted on a rifle sledge or on a special milling on a gun cart. An emitter projects a light beam on a special lens designed to reflect certain colours while remaining transparent.

In this way, the red dot laser beam is visible to the eye of the shooter and appears as if it were floating in front of the target. The position of the point on the lens is adjustable so that you can change both the height and the derivation. There are several types of the red dot on the market with different sizes, reticles and shapes; however, a feature that unites them is that they are usually without magnification, so as to facilitate the instinctive and fast acquisition of the target.

When using metal targets, the shooter must concentrate on 3 objects placed on different planes: the sight diopter or notch, the sight and the target. Since the human eye cannot focus on 3 superimposed elements at a time, very often focuses only on the viewfinder, while the diopter and the target remain blurred.

Learning how to do this correctly requires time, effort and training. With a red dot laser device on the gun, the situation becomes much less complex since the elements to be superimposed. When the red dot laser beam is above the target just press the trigger and, if we have done our part, we will hit the target. This ease of use translates into more chances to hit the target, thus increasing the satisfaction and enjoyment of novice shooters or those who do not have much time to devote to training.

The red dot laser sights are often used in sports or military for the speed with which allow you to hit the target. The red points are in fact designed to shoot with both eyes open and this feature allows you to keep the field of view unchanged to be able to pass in a few seconds from one lens to another. Not having to consider factors such as pupillary extraction, the acquisition of the target is fast and instinctive: just take up the weapon, view the dot and the target and fire, all without worrying about the position of the head or red dot laser.
